Virtual Reality (VR) Guides & Troubleshooting: Controller Drift

Controller Drift

Here are the step-by-step instructions to troubleshoot controller drift on your Meta Quest  headset:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

  1. Clean the Controllers: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the controllers, especially around the joystick area1. You can also use compressed air to remove any debris inside the joystick.

  2. Recalibrate the Controllers: Go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Deadzone1. Adjust the deadzone settings for both controllers.

  3. Restart the Headset: Turn off your headset and turn it back on to see if the issue persists.

  4. Unpair and Re-pair the Controllers: Go to Settings > Devices > Controllers and unpair the controllers2. Then, pair them again.

  5. Check for Software Updates: Ensure your headset and the Oculus app are updated to the latest software version.

  6. Remove Unsupported Accessories: If you have any third-party accessories attached to your controllers, remove them as they might interfere with the joystick motion.

  7. Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, perform a factory reset. Press and hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons until the boot screen appears, then navigate to Factory Reset using the Volume Down button and confirm with the Power button.

Additional Tips:

  • Battery Check: Make sure the batteries are properly inserted and have enough charge.

  • Contact Support: If the issue persists, contact Meta Quest support for further assistance.
