Basic Troubleshooting Guide

1. Device Won’t Turn On

  • Check Battery Level: Plug the headset into the charger for at least 30 minutes, then try turning it on.

  • Hold the Power Button: Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a reboot.

  • Check Charging Indicator: Ensure the LED light is on when plugged in. If not, try a different cable or power outlet.

2. Display Issues

  • Screen Flicker or Black Screen: Restart the headset by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.

  • Blurry or Unfocused Display: Adjust the lenses by moving them left or right to find the best clarity. Clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth.

3. Controller Issues

  • Controllers Not Tracking or Connecting: Remove and reinsert the batteries, or replace them if they’re low.

  • Re-Pair Controllers: Open the Oculus app on your phone, go to Settings > Devices, and re-pair the controllers.

4. Tracking Issues

  • Tracking Lost Warning: Ensure you’re in a well-lit area without direct sunlight. Avoid reflective surfaces, as these can interfere with tracking.

  • Recalibrate Tracking: Reboot the headset, and check that the play area is free of obstructions.

5. Headset Won’t Update

  • Check Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Reconnect or move closer to your Wi-Fi router if needed.

  • Reboot the Headset: Sometimes, restarting helps kickstart the update process.

  • Check Storage Space: Clear up storage if it’s full, as updates require free space.

6. Audio Problems

  • No Sound: Check the volume levels on both the headset and within the settings menu. Reboot the headset if necessary.

  • Distorted Sound: Disconnect any connected Bluetooth audio devices, as these can sometimes interfere with sound quality.

7. App Crashes or Freezes

  • Restart the App: Close the app, then reopen it.

  • Reboot the Headset: This can clear temporary glitches.

  • Reinstall the App: If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the app. Contact IT for support regarding application reinstall. 

8. Guardian Boundary Issues

  • Boundary Not Staying Set: Set up a new boundary. See ‘Getting Started with VR’ for more information

  • Boundary Warning Keeps Popping Up: Ensure adequate lighting and remove any objects close to the boundary.
